SWARTBERG was established in 1998 when the Geldenhuys family acquired over 8000 hectares of land at the foot of the Swartberg Mountain range (a World Heritage Site) in the Klein Karoo. The land was used to develop Swartberg Private Wildlife Estate, Welgevonden Private Game Reserve and Wildehondekloof Private Game Reserve. Swartberg Game Breeders was one of the first pioneers of game ranching in the Western Cape, and by working together with Cape Nature has built up over 30 species of game with superb genetics and bloodlines. This includes a large herd of buffalo from top breeders with a world-class genetic gene pool. as well as a prolific Cape Mountain zebra programme.
After being part of this magnificent wildlife ranching industry for the past 18 years, Swartberg has built strong relationships with fellow wildlife ranchers across this country and is looking forward to continued success well into the future. Resident species include buffalo, giraffe, kudu, Cape Mountain zebra, eland, impala, springbuck, lechwe, common reedbuck, mountain reedbuck, blue wildebeest, red hartebeest, nyala, oryx, waterbuck, blesbuck and more.
